2021 Pro Bono Client Highlight: Phoenix Center for the Arts

As we introduce this year’s search for our next pro bono client, we want to showcase our current client and what we’ve been able to accomplish for them in this past year. We are thankful to have Renee Aguilar from Phoenix Center for the Arts share her experience with us!

Tell us about PCA

Phoenix Center for the Arts is a vital community resource for the visual and performing arts for the citizens of Phoenix. Since 1975 the Center has been a place for our surrounding neighborhoods, students, and artists to participate in hands-on arts experiences. Phoenix Center for the Arts is also home to two of Phoenix’s most beloved annual arts events, the Mayor’s Arts Awards (recognizing the achievements and positive impacts of local artists in our community), and Phoenix Festival of the Arts (an annual multi-day arts festival that showcases local professional and student artists with live music, food trucks, muralists, art demonstrations, and more).

My role at the Center is the Marketing Manager. Together with the Marketing team, we are responsible for creating and maintaining all things related to public relations, digital content, social media, and public messaging. It’s our job to share how awesome the Center is and let the public know they have an amazing arts resource in their community.

How did you hear about the Hammersmith Support Pro Bono Client campaign?

We heard about the Pro Bono Client opportunity from their staff during a troubleshooting call, and they encouraged us to apply. Staff at the Center had been talking about updating the website for a while, but knew it would be a large expense. This Pro Bono Client program seemed to be a perfect opportunity for us.

What has your experience with Hammersmith Support been like?

Working with the Hammersmith Support team has been phenomenal. Their staff has been easy to work with, very helpful and informative, in addition to being extremely patient with some of our staff who are not as technologically inclined.

What have you been able to accomplish on your website and how has that translated to your organization?

Hammersmith’s team really listened to what our staff had to say about how we envisioned a new website to look, interact, and engage our visitors. We’ve been able to streamline access to a variety of our programs and public resources. This has made it easier for our visitors to see all of the different offerings the Center has, in addition to our arts classes. Hammersmith also helped to update the website to be more mobile-friendly and responsive as more and more people are visiting our site on mobile devices.

What advice or thoughts do you have for other nonprofit organizations when it comes to their website functionality?

Take the time to ensure that your website is up to date in all things! Mobile responsiveness. Update or change to more user-friendly plugins. Monitor your analytics to see which pages are not getting traffic to assess the ease of finding information on your website or update your messaging. And if you have the opportunity, work with website professionals to streamline your content updating process.

Be Our Next Pro Bono Client!

Our newest pro bono client will receive one year of Hammersmith Support maintenance. This includes:

  • Site backups and live staging copy maintained
  • Security scans and malware prevention
  • Site optimization
  • Full site test each month
  • Submission to Google Search Console
  • Two hours of content updates monthly—update images, wording, service packages, about us pages, add or update donation forms, and so on. This time can also be used to add additional features to your site!

While we always work to support our local businesses, this project is aimed at those doing the most for our community: nonprofit organizations. Any charitable organization that is an approved 501(c)(3) and has an existing WordPress website is eligible to be our pro bono client. Click here to complete an application.
